DFW Pug Rescue Club, Inc., (DFWPRC) had the privilege and honor of working with Don Pierce for over 9 years before his passing in 2007. DFWPRC was incorporated in 1997 and a year later, we met Don.
Don was the silent giant that was the “behind the scenes” volunteer that always performed tasks that were needed. He transported pugs, fostered, visited shelters, and although he did not have any training, he took the initiative and became our webmaster.
He always participated in our events, became our PA Sound Man and even paid for the printing of our newsletter when we were broke and did not have the money to mail newsletters for our growing membership.
Our annual Pug-O-Ween were an immediate success and as we moved to bigger facilities, we did not have the funds to rent a PA system. Without any warning, Don showed up with a PA system that he purchased and donated to DFWPRC.
We met Don when he called our hot line number to inform us that he located an old DFWPRC website entry in Austin and Houston that had not been activated. He asked us if we would be willing to let him create a website for us if we would be patient and allow him to learn how to do it. He informed us that he would be willing to work on it until someone more qualified came along. Nine years later, Don was still our webmaster.
Don never asked for any recognition, never told anyone that he paid for items needed by DFWPRC, and never said “no” when asked for help. He created our announcements and later created boards that we started using at the different shows where we exhibited. One of the final tasks that he performed before his passing was to create a complete set of exhibits for Austin, DFW, and Houston.
Don was a pug lover and adopted several pugs from DFWPRC over the years. He is missed by pug lovers and without his involvement; many of our rescue pugs would have never been rescued.
Don was a blessing to DFWPRC and we cherish the memories that we have of him.
